Starting Out
« on: August 23, 2011, 01:40:33 PM »
We are a family of four, just beginning to research section hiking starting next summer. Any suggestions on where to get some cheaper used/really reduced price equipment? I am aware of the Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington, are there any others you use? Thanks,

You can always try Crigslist. I found my pack there last year and got a great deal on it. Just be careful of scammers. I never buy nothing off Craigslist unless it is in person.

Hi, If you join Mountain Equip COOP http://www.mec.ca/AST/ContentPrimary/Community/GearSwap.jsp (five bucks for lifetime) you can post needs on our gear swap forum and scroll through to see what's being sold/traded. We're Canadian, and boast we have oodles and oodles of U.S. members. MEC is our answer to REI COOP. I don't know if REI has a gear swap forum.

If you are in Montreal this week-end, 25th Sept. there is a Gear Swap in front of the Montreal outlet (L'Acadie and the Met. i.e Central Market locally known as Marché Central) http://www.mec.ca/AST/ContentPrimary/Services/Stores/Montreal.jsp#map

We are having a membership drive until Nov. 1, for 16-24 yr olds with a 1000 dollar gift card draw.
